As a prank for April Fools Day, I came up with the idea of ‘The Big Vegemite’, a 5-storey high Vegemite Jar to be built on top of the Vegemite factory in Port Melbourne. Set to feature a Vegemite museum and restaurant at the top, it was to supposedly be an iconic landmark to rival Australia’s other big icons like the Big Pineapple, the Big Banana and the like. Some members of the press ignored the embargo on the press release, thinking that this was such major news they failed to realise that the whole thing was an April Fools joke. Needless to say, it gained massive nationwide coverage.
